The Friends of the Massachusetts Park Ranger Mounted Unit was founded to help the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) to protect, preserve and promote the 450,000 acres of the state park system. In addition, the Friends support the sustainability of the Mounted Unit and the restoration and maintenance of the Brian T. Broderick Stable, which is located in the heart of the Blue Hills.

DCR's Massachusetts Park Ranger Mounted Unit at Work

Being on horseback patrol allows the Mounted Unit Rangers to engage with park visitors. No one pets a cruiser.

Have you ever explored the DCR Massachusetts State Park System by horseback? Bring your horse, get a map, and go for a ride along numerous beautiful trails accessible by horseback.

Often DCR's Massachusetts Park Ranger Mounted Unit conduct ceremonial functions using the flag of the United States of America and the flag of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Another term for this activity is being a “Color Guard”.
